Scotland League Prediction: Quick recap and format for 2022 edition
The 2021-22 season involved a lot of kerfuffles as the tournament was filled with thrillers and last-second finishes. The defending champions Glasgow Celtic have shown no mercy as they have chipped away with five trophies in the last five seasons. The giant sides like Rangers who have the most trophies have tried their level best to stop the juggernaut but to no avail so far. It’s time for other clubs like Aberdeen and Hibernian to displace the giants this time around.
Focusing on the knockout games of the 2021 season, the top quarter had giants Rangers knocking out the Nicky Devlin men while Dundee was taken down comprehensively by St. Johnstone. The bottom half of the draw saw reigning champions Celtics walk all over Raith Rovers while Hibernian didn’t break much sweat in dispatching Dundee United.
The semi-final clash was once again routine for Celtic as they tore apart St. Johnstone quite comfortably with Hibernian upsetting Rangers in a closely fought encounter. In the finals between Celtic and Hibernian, after trailing 0-1, Celtic pulled themselves out of the clutches of defeat, thanks to the contribution of Furuhashi.
The 2022 edition has 40 teams being divided into 8 groups each group having 5 teams respectively. The remaining five teams who are part of UEFA competitions will be through to the second round after getting a bye. The remaining 11 slots for Round 2 would be filled by winners of each of the groups as well as the three best runner-up teams. From thereon, the format is straightforward with pre-quarters, quarter-finals, and semi-finals being played before the final.
Scotland League Prediction: Seedings
Coming to the draw for this tournament, it is pretty obvious that the teams were allotted based on their league positions in the previous season. The seedings and the fixtures were announced in May 2022. The defending champions Celtic and Rangers are playing in the champions league while Heart of Midlothian, Dundee United, and Motherwell are part of Europa tournaments. This means that they directly qualify to the second round. Â
On the other hand, Aberdeen is leading Group A whereas Kilmarnock, Ross County, Hibernian, St. Mirren, St. Johnston, Livingston, and Dundee are part of Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F, Group G, and Group H respectively who are most likely considered to be the ones making it to the next stage.
Scotland League Prediction
The Scottish League’s knockout format is what separates it from the rest of the leagues. This not only gives a great chance to the underdogs but also paves the way to nail-biting finishes. Even though it is pretty evident that only a few teams have their hold on the trophy in the last few seasons, it is time for other sides to step up here.
Looking at the predictions given by Oddschecker, it is clear that Glasgow Celtic are the firm favorites with a 5/4 as the defending champions with Rangers possessing the second-best odds of 9/4 with Heart of Midlothian rounding up the top three. Another platform Betway has also gone with Celtic as the side to beat in the 2022-23 edition, while teams like Aberdeen and Hibernian who are trophyless for some years need to buckle up this time around.
