Dean Smith has replaced Daniel Farke as the new Norwich City coach and he will have a tough task to cut out. The Canaries are submerged deep in the relegation zone and it would need a massive overhaul to overcome the current scenario at the club.

Smith didn’t have to wait long as the offer from Norwich came quite surprisingly and he grabbed it with both hands. He was behind the promotion of Villa to the Premier League and also stabilised the club with some rapid development over the course of years.

For Southampton, their hopes to finish in the top half of the table have not diminished. Consecutive wins have consolidated their position in the 13^th position and a win against the bottom placed teams will only set the tone for the remaining part of the season.

After the 7-0 humiliation at the hands of Chelsea, everyone had expected the Canaries to go down uninterruptedly. But their performance against Brentford has set the platform for a make or break season as the Canaries need to grind out their last drop of energy in their battle for survival.

Dean Smith had the experience of guiding Villa through a relegation scare in the 2019-20 season when they survived the drop by a mere 1 point at the end. In the following season, Villa finished in 11^th position.

Norwich hierarchy must have noticed Dean Smith’s managerial credentials and he could help them stay afloat in the top flight for one more season.The international break came at the right time and the gaffer will have the time to sort back things before their encounter with Southampton.

Ralph Hasenhuttl had a quite tumultuous journey at St Mary’s and has done a commendable job despite having a very limited budget at his disposal.The Austrian gaffer extended his contract last year and is expected to see out his contract irrespective of Southampton’s performance.

Alex McCarthy is expected to be in between the goals. Kyle Walker-Peters will come in the absence of injured Tino Livramento while Romai Perraud will be on the left side of the defence.

Jan Bednarek  will be accompanied by Mohamed Salisu in the heart of the Saints defence. Ibrahima Diallo has filled in well in James Ward-Prowse’s absence and will continue to do so.

Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi will start on the flanks while Che Adams and Adam Armstrong will be spearheading the attack.

For Norwich Dean Smith is not expected to tweak with the lineup much although Billy Gilmour might make it to the lineup. The Chelsea loanee hasn’t had much time on the pitch and his fate might change upon the arrival of Smith at Villa Park.
