Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction and Odds: Preview

Liverpool have proved shown their title ambitions with two big wins over Manchester United and Arsenal in the recent past. Jurgen Klopp’s team has so far lost a single match only against West Ham United and hasn’t displayed their intention to stop at all.

They have matched their previous title winning campaign’s standards and their exemplary performance in the top flight has set the tone for a three horse race for the Premier League title this time.

They were absolutely lethal against Porto and didn’t give their opponent a chance to stand. They had 59% of the possession and had 11 shots attempted at the goal. Mohamed Salah has been in impeccable form and again found the net against Porto.

They have found the net in each of their last six matches and Southampton have a very tough task to cut out it seems.

Southampton have been dealing with inconsistency as they have failed to make the most out of it. They had a quiet summer transfer window but Ralph Hasenhuttl has somehow managed to stabilise the side with a number of impressive performances.

Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction

Following their loss to Chelsea they had been on a four match unbeaten row but their uncharacteristic defeat against Norwich City has now jolted their plans.

But the Saints have managed to hold both Manchester United and Manchester City and they could draw inspiration from these results against Liverpool.

Both the side backs will have a challenge on their own. Kyle Walker-Peters will have to contain Sadio Mane while Valentino Livramento will try to stop the menacing run of Sadio Mane.

Goals have dried up for the saints but both Che Adams and Adam Armstrong will try to breach the Liverpool defence at their fortress.

For Liverpool, it should be another walk in the park. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brilliant against Arsenal and he should be given another chance to impress while Diogo Jota’s inclusion should keep Roberto Firmino on the bench.

The Reds are four points adrift of topper Chelsea and cannot afford another loss or defeat which could derail their plans. With the festive season coming ahead games will be thick and fast coming at them

So they need to reduce the gap and have to be dominating in all of the winnable games. They have looked convincing at home and it should be another regular affair for them.

Beating Liverpool at home would be too much for the Saints but they have beaten big opponents in the past and should fancy their chances in this match.

Liverpool have blossomed with their pressing and possession based play and they will continue to play with their high octane football.

Top teams have struggled to take on Liverpool and their squad depth has also been one of the reasons why they are so successful in recent times. Jurgen Klopp has a vast pool of players and can call in replacements whenever needed.

They have scored 35 goals, the highest in the English top flight so far. Salah has found Southampton as his favourite opponent as in eight meetings the Egyptian has found the net seven times alongside two assists.

Not only scoring, but Salah can also drag players to make spaces for other attackers and the Saints defenders need to thwart that chances.

Walker-Peters was pretty average and only won 50% of his duels. He should follow the movement of Salah very closely and should close in whenever a dangerous move appears.

Relegation is not looming on Southampton at the moment but they cannot sit still as they are just five points clear of the drop zone and any mishap in the next couple of games could drag them in the relegation race.

Ibrahima Konate started against Porto and he struggled a bit to cope up with the pace of the match. Klopp is expected to tweak his lineup in the weekend and Virgil van Dijk will come in his place.

Salah scored his 17th goal of the season in all competitions and he is looking unstoppable at this moment. It remains to be seen how the Saints plan to stop the Reds juggernaut on Saturday.

The away side will also be boosted with the return of Jack Stephens who was missing for a longer period due to a hamstring injury since the Manchester City match. He has featured in training and could e back in the starting lineup.
