Brighton & Hove Albion will host Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Seagulls have been the surprise package of the season losing only two games so far as they are very much on track in a bid to claim a European spot this season. A number of draws have seen them distancing themselves from the top four but their gritty show against Liverpool proved they are here to stay in the top flight.

Newcastle have had a horrific run so far as they have collected only four points so far. Despite their takeover by the wealthy Saudi owners there seem to be no changes in their fortune after all. They are yet to pick out a permanent manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce but Spanish manager Unai Emery rejected the offer as he made it clear he would be staying at Villarreal.

Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is now the leading candidate to restore the Magpies’ status and it remains to be seen how things turn out in near future.

Brighton vs Newcastle Prediction and Odds: Recent Form

Brightton are winless in their last five matches and are aiming a place in the top six in the table.

They drew two and lost one in the last three matches. They played out a goalless draw with bottom placed Norwich City and then went on to concede four goals against a far superior Manchester City. Their effort against Liverpool was heavily praised. Jurgen Klopp’s side had taken a two goal lead but a brilliant comeback from the Seagulls saw them scoring another two to restore parity.

Newcastle lost two of their last three matches. The Magpies lost to both London giants Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea and secured a draw against another London side Crystal Palace. The Newcastle owners are still searching for the perfect combination and their priority has been to appoint a new manager. Eddie Howe is leading the race to be the new manager of the Magpies but is the man for this job?

How successfully had won two simultaneous promotions with Bournemouth and managed to retain their Premier League status for four successive seasons before they went down to the Championship back in 2020. Howe has been without a managerial job since then.

Howe should have been at Newcastle a few seasons before when Mike Ashley had his difficulties running the club. The Englishman knows how to run a club with small financial and he could have been kept the ball ticking. Having worked with Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie and Callum Wilson at Bournemouth Howe find it easy when he takes charge at the St James Park.

A hefty transfer kitty is believed to be available for him should Newcastle keep their head high till the January transfer window and he might just keep them afloat in the top flight.

Brighton on the other hand have earned their plaudits for their pressing and fluid attacking football this season. Newcastle are a team that doesn’t bother to press the ball in the attacking areas and they might find it difficult to cope up with the relentless pressing of Graham Potter’s side.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth was a delight to watch as they used to press the ball with sheer determination. They will be needing a pall playing defender at the heart of the defence who could move the ball effortlessly. Also, a dominant midfielder in the middle of the pitch would see them maintaining the possession for a long time which could be a key in breaking the opposition lines.

Seeing people complain about what’s going on at @NUFC and the time taken to appoint a manager. While it’s not ideal to be left in limbo, it’s sometimes good to reflect on where we’re coming from. 8 years ago, today… #nufc

If you’re complaining about our new owners & if you’re turning your nose up at Eddie Howe AFTER you’ve endured 14 years of Mike Ashley with the Kinnears, the McClarens, the Carvers, the Bruces etc. then you’re not a fan of Newcastle United…you’re just a football Karen. #NUFC
